SKG-286 White Pass Summit & Historical City of Skagway Tour
(2008)
A Family Friendly
Tour

Our City and Summit
Tour begins from Skagway's cruise ship docks and takes visitors on a
journey through downtown Skagway. The wooden boardwalks lead past
buildings featuring 19th century architecture, including the Arctic
Brotherhood Hall, the most photographed building in Alaska. The
stories of the gold rush come alive from the streets where famed local
outlaw "Soapy Smith" shot it out with Sheriff Frank Reid, to the cemetery
where the two men were laid to rest after their ill-fated showdown.
Our travels then follow
the Klondike Highway from Skagway to the White Pass Summit at an elevation
of over 3,000 feet. There are stops along the way to take in the
breathtaking vistas, flora and fauna from the temperate rain forest to the
alpine tundra. Highlights include numerous waterfalls, azure blue
glaciers, crystal clear alpine lakes, snow-capped mountain peaks, and
panoramic views of Skagway with the cruise ships in the background.
While it is uncommon,
black and brown bears are sometimes spotted during the summit portion of
the tour. Other animals seen include bald eagles, deer, moose,
marmots, porcupine, lynx and coyote.
Our guides have
received training in both the cultural and natural history of Skagway.
Much of Skagway's history is anecdotal,--tall tales from larger than life
men and women. These are the tales that bring our town to life for
visitors.
